The Complete World of Warcraft Raiding Guide

Responsible

This is the first and most important quality of every top raider. You have to be responsible for your thoughts and actions. You must take ownership in all that you do. Without this you are nothing. You cannot be a top raider without responsibility. An excuse-free attitude is necessary to succeed. You have to be willing to blame yourself for your mistakes.

Aware

There are a few different types of awareness. One is to be aware of your surroundings. You have to know what is going on around you at all times, not what others are doing, but what is happening in the fight. Also you have to be self-aware. You have to actively look at yourself and find weaknesses for you to improve.

Prepared

Preparation is what separates the good from the great. You must know every single fight and be prepared to execute it perfectly. You must be on time (early) for every single raid and have everything you will need throughout it. In order to prepare for the raids you must work hard and be driven to achieve greatness. Your knowledge of raiding and the fights must be better than anyone else's.

Patient

You must be patient, patient with yourself and patient with others. Frustration can sneak in and hinder your ability to play if you are not patient. Allow yourself the time necessary to improve and don't expect instant results. Success takes time, but when you get there it makes every second of every hour spent worth it.

Active

A true raider is very active and quick. You are constantly doing something that is important to the raid and you are doing it as quickly as possible. Your mental quickness must be better than average. You don't want to be reacting to things as reactions are slow and slow you down. Instead you want to be proactive and be ready for, and have a response prepared for every problem or element of raiding.

Consistent

If you are good one day and terrible the next, you are worthless. In order to be considered top, you have to always be top. You can't have bad days. You need to be able to focus on a consistent basis and always perform near the best of your abilities. If you start off bad you need to have a way to get yourself back to your optimal performance level.

Team Oriented

You must be able to humble yourself and put your guild and/or raid before yourself. The success of the raid matters more than personal success. Always remember that if the raid wins, you win. Be positive and enthusiastic always and especially when things aren't going well. Be the beacon of positivity that people will run too in times of adversity.
